Start with a doctor

Changes in your hair or scalp can have medical causes, and a doctor can look at them before you spend money on a cosmetic treatment. This site covers cosmetic uses only. For any medical condition, talk to a doctor.

Questions specific to scalp treatments

  • Who applies it to the scalp? Ask for the practitioner's name and license type, and look them up.
  • Is it the same product as the facial one? Ask for the product name and the maker for the scalp.
  • How does the clinic judge results? Ask whether it takes photos the same way at each visit, and what it does if you see no change.
  • How many sessions, and why? Ask what the plan is based on.
  • What is the aftercare? Ask about washing, products and covering the scalp outdoors in the Miami sun.
  • What does the price cover? Product, needling, number of sessions and follow-up.

What the studies cover

The 2026 systematic review of microneedling with exosomes included eight studies in its narrative synthesis, with 3 to 60 participants each, on several skin and scalp concerns. Its authors say more evidence is needed on safety and effectiveness, with longer follow-up. 2026 review, PubMed (PMID 42027180).

The 2021 safety review of microneedling lists active infection and metal allergies among risk factors, which applies on the scalp as it does on the face. 2021 safety review, PubMed (PMID 34448760).

No exosome product is FDA approved. FDA public safety notification, December 6, 2019 (checked October 15, 2026; the page is dated 2019).

Questions about scalp treatments

Is the product the same on the scalp as on the face?

Do not assume so. Ask which product is used for which area, and get its name and its maker in writing.

How long before I would see a change?

No one can promise that. The evidence in people is preliminary, so ask what a clinic bases its timeline on.
